Yogo Sapphire FAQ
According to the Internet and the owner this parcel
...
The term "Yogo Sapphire" refers only to Sapphires from Yogo Gulch, Montana and is the preferred wording for gems found in Yogo Gulch, whereas “Montana Sapphire" generally refers to gems found in other Montana locations. Yogos are typically cornflower blue, a result of trace amounts of iron and titanium. They have high uniform clarity and maintain their brilliance under artificial light. Yogos tend to be beautiful, small, and very expensive. The United States Geological Survey and many gem experts have stated that Yogos are "among the world's finest sapphires.” The rough pieces tend to be small and flat, so faceted Yogo gems heavier than 2 carats are very rare. Only about 10 percent of cut pieces are over 1 carat. The largest recorded Yogo rough, found in 1910, weighed 19 carats and was cut into an 8-carat gem. Because of the rarity of rough material prices begin rising sharply when they are over 0.5 carats, and skyrocket when they are over 1 carat.
