    Description

    Vintage Silver Swallows Thimble
    French * Circa 1970
This tall silver thimble has a wide band embossed with soaring swallows. It is called "Le Vol d'hirondelles" or Flight of the Swallows.
The design flows up into the waffled knurling and clouds form the background. It is stamped with the French Mercury head silver hallmark that was used for 800/1000 pure silver made in Paris. It also has the maker's mark used by Roger Lenain (Lenain Frères). He bought the Lorillion/Féau company who made these waffle knurled thimbles in the early 1900s and got the original thimble dies. He re-issued several of them in 1970 and this is one of those thimbles.
The condition is mint, crisp and in round with no holes, damage or even wear. It's gilded inside and is about an American size 10 (16.2 mm diameter opening). This thimble is shown on p. 88 of
